Church Membership

What

At Living Way, we recognize there is a wide range of commitment levels held by those who attend our services. Our doors are always open to any and all, whatever the level of commitment and involvement. Still, there comes a point when a church finds it necessary to delineate who among its attendees represents the church and what the church is about.

To this end, we offer our Church Membership Class. This class consists of three sessions of three hours each on consecutive Sunday afternoons. It is taught by the pastoral staff, covering all important areas relevant for anyone interested in becoming a member (e.g., church vision, doctrine, structure, etc.). Following the completion of the class, any person interested in pursuing membership will be asked to complete a membership application, which will be reviewed by the pastoral staff.

Why

  1. Membership communicates, “I belong here.” You are making a public declaration that you believe God has called you to join the family at Living Way.
  2. Membership communicates, “I am responsible for the well-being of the fellow believers here.” You are committing to come alongside fellow believers on this journey, viewing life and growth as a community—not individual—endeavor.
  3. Membership communicates, “I share the goals and vision of Living Way.” You are committing to the direction of the church, and to contribute your unique gifts and passions in order to help Living Way realize our goals.
  4. Membership communicates, “I share the values and beliefs of Living Way.” You are committing to uphold and advocate the core ideals and standards of the church.
  5. Membership communicates, “I recognize the church’s authority in my life.” You are entrusting yourself to the leadership of the church and to the accountability they will offer

When

Classes are offered three times a year (February, June, October). The fee is $15, which covers the cost of the 100-page Membership Handbook. In addition, all who take the class will receive a special gift (Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem). Please be on the lookout for signup announcements for our next class.

NOTE: Anyone interested in becoming a member before or after the classes are held can turn in a membership application on the first Sunday of each month. Membership applications will be accepted and reviewed on the condition that those who apply will read through the entire Membership Handbook, take the next Membership Class, and meet with a pastor for an interview. The purpose of this policy is to allow people to apply for membership without having to wait for the next class, particularly if they hope to serve in a representative ministry. For additional information and/or to receive the membership application and handbook, please contact the church office.
